Sa pratique des arts visuels est centr\u00e9e sur la cr\u00e9ation de Lumachromes: impressions directes \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re sur plaque de verre avec des \u00e9mulsions chimiques vari\u00e9es Judith a publi\u00e9 un recueil de po\u00e9sie : The Myrrh-Bearers (Sydney : Puncher &amp; Wattmann, 2015), et un livre sur la tribu aborig\u00e8ne Warlipiri en Australie qui r\u00e9unit photographies, dessins et po\u00e9sie:The Lumen Seed (New York : Daylight Books, 2017). Son roman en vers illustr\u00e9, The Dingo\u2019s Noctuary, sera publi\u00e9 avec Daylight Books en 2020. En 2019, ses Lumachromes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9s \u00e0 la Galerie Maunsell Wickes, Australie, \u00e0 l\u2019Autre Foire d\u2019Art et au Festival International de la Photographie de Pingyao, Chine.<\/p><p class=\"\"><strong><em>D\u00e9claration de l\u2019artiste<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p class=\"\">\u00ab L\u2019origine de la cr\u00e9ation de ces Lumachromes sur plaque de verre est intimement reli\u00e9e \u00e0 ma relation avec deux groupes tribaux aborig\u00e8nes d\u2019Australie \u2013 le peuple Bpangerang, dont je suis descendante, et les Warlpiri qui ont pris soin de moi tout au long de ces vingt derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es pass\u00e9es \u00e0 essayer d\u2019identifier les origines aborig\u00e8nes perdues de ma famille. Ces Lumachromes sont cr\u00e9\u00e9s \u00e0 partir de m\u00e9thodes photographiques archa\u00efques \u2013 impressions directes \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re sur plaque de verre avec des \u00e9mulsions chimiques vari\u00e9es.<\/p><p class=\"\">Les \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui composent ces Lumachromes proviennent du Pays lui-m\u00eame: carcasses d&#8217;animaux, ocres, brindilles et herbe. Expos\u00e9es \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re naturelle pendant de nombreuses heures, ces images honorent les animaux indig\u00e8nes et les oiseaux tu\u00e9s sur nos routes. En r\u00e9alisant ces Lumachromes, je m\u2019engage consciemment dans une collaboration avec Le Pays.<\/p><p class=\"\">Ce travail repose sur deux questions. La premi\u00e8re est la fa\u00e7on dont une femme, \u00e9lev\u00e9e dans une culture blanche, peut apprendre \u00e0 \u00eatre une femme aborig\u00e8ne \u2013 s\u2019acquitter des obligations et des responsabilit\u00e9s qui sont inh\u00e9rentes \u00e0 sa position. Je ne peux devenir une femme de c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, une femme de loi. La meilleure chose \u00e0 laquelle je puisse aspirer est d\u2019apprendre \u00e0 honorer les morts, comme le font les femmes dans les syst\u00e8mes tribaux. Et, comme c\u2019est un objectif ambitieux, cela fait sens de commencer en pratiquant avec le monde des animaux et des oiseaux.<\/p><p class=\"\">La deuxi\u00e8me question importante : quel genre de lien avec Le Pays reste possible pour une personne qui a perdu ses origines aborig\u00e8nes, pour une personne qui n\u2019a m\u00eame aucune origine aborig\u00e8ne ou qui est n\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger mais qui vit sur le sol australien. Mes amis Warlpiri me poussent vivement \u00e0 \u2018parler au Pays\u2019, et \u2018Le Pays r\u00e9pondra\u2019 me disent-ils. Mais le seul langage que je connaisse est celui de meurtriers et de navires d\u2019esclaves. Comment puis-je parler au Pays dans une langue qu\u2019il ne peut pas comprendre ? Un autre langage doit \u00eatre cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u2013 une langue de symboles et de signes, de montagnes, d\u2019\u00e9toiles, de corps, d\u2019ocre. Je dois trouver un moyen de d\u00e9velopper une langue partag\u00e9e, une langue ind\u00e9pendante. Mes anc\u00eatres ne me donneront pas la relation esp\u00e9r\u00e9e avec Le Pays. Il ne suffit pas de dire \u00ab oh, j\u2019aime ce paysage \u00bb, de nourrir des oiseaux dans le parc ou de faire des promenades dans le bush australien l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi. Le Pays est un \u00eatre sauvage et sensible, et si je veux me relier \u00e0 lui, je dois trouver un moyen de communication partag\u00e9.<\/p><p class=\"\">Ces Lumachromes sont une tentative d\u2019honorer les morts, et la recherche d\u2019une syntaxe partag\u00e9e avec Le Pays \u2013 pas quelque chose de transmis de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration en g\u00e9n\u00e9ration ou dans les tribus elles-m\u00eames, pas les abstractions des anthropologues, beaucoup d\u2019entre eux n\u2019ont jamais mis le pied sur Le Pays, mais un acte authentique de communication entre un individu et la terre o\u00f9 ces morts reposent. Ces images sont, en m\u00eame temps, une ode pour un lapin ou un oiseau mort, et un acte de deuil pour le lien perdu de ma famille avec la terre sacr\u00e9e. Nous sommes le peuple de nulle part &#8211; n\u2019appartenant pas enti\u00e8rement \u00e0 la culture blanche, pas retourn\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement \u00e0 la culture noire.
