Elle est titulaire d&#8217;un Master en recherche sur l&#8217;environnement, l&#8217;\u00e9nergie et la r\u00e9silience de l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 de Bristol, dipl\u00f4me obtenu avec son m\u00e9moire sur les cons\u00e9quences sociales et \u00e9cologiques de la d\u00e9couverte massive de p\u00e9trole d&#8217;Exxon Mobil en Guyane, territoire carib\u00e9en. Elle poursuit actuellement un doctorat en litt\u00e9rature sur les journalistes noirs en Grande-Bretagne, \u00e0 l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 d&#8217;Exeter. Zakiya est \u00e9galement productrice et pr\u00e9sentatrice b\u00e9n\u00e9vole \u00e0 la radio Ujima 98fm Bristol.
