I am a marine ecologist and conservationist, based in Kenya. I am currently working as a Marine Research Scientist at Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) with about 15 years of experience. In my work, I undertake research on marine ecosystems that advises and helps formulate management interventions and policies for conservation and sustainable utilization of marine resources in Kenya. Over the years I have focused mostly on coral reef ecosystems by conducting regular monitoring of the ecosystem health and resilience, biodiversity assessments, habitat mapping, and providing expertise on management interventions like coral reef restoration activities. I also provide regular trainings and capacity building to coastal communities on sustainable utilization of marine resources. I am an avid scuba diver with divemaster certification. I have trained in underwater cinematography and storytelling on conservation stories. I hold leadership positions through chairing a number of committees and working groups not only on conservation matters but also on staff welfare aspects. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Science from Moi University-Kenya, a Masters in Fisheries Management from Linkoping University- Sweden and a PhD in Biodiversity from Taiwan National Normal University.
