Dr Liani Maasdorp is a senior lecturer in UCT’s Centre for Film & Media Studies. She convenes the MA: Documentary Arts. She was one of the producers of Strike a Rock, which opened the Encounters Documentary Film Festival in 2017; screened at Sheffield DocFest & IDFA; and won best SA documentary film at DIFF. She is on the board of the South African Documentary Filmmakers’ Association and has served as judge for the International Emmy Awards. Her research and public engagement focus on film centred social change strategy design. She is co-director of the first Climate Story Lab South Africa, to be held in January 2023.
